Everyone wants to sing well. If people are giving you a strange look when you sing along with one of your favourite artists then perhaps it's time you work on singing better. Singing is very healthy and has been linked to better brain functioning and can improve memory (the recalling of data). Singing also helps in making new social contact with other people. If you love communicating with other human beings (well and animals) then perhaps you want to think about developing your singing voice. Only a small percentage of people are born with a good singing voice, the other 90% need training to get there - but it IS possible to get well at singing.
If you are really serious about singing then a professional teacher will be the best option for you. If you have less time, or less money to spend on lessons, then online lessons could be a nice possibility. The online option is excellent for those of us who have busy work lives or a family to take care of. In the evening you jump in front of the PC and your lessons will be delivered through a web site. Usually the online lessons will teach you how to sing in tune, breathing techniques, and how to make your voice more dynamic. These won't turn you into a professional singer, but provide a good basis to work from. Whether you take the online lessons or go see a teacher, the lessons will try to build your confidence. A singer with confidence in their abilities sings much better than someone who is insecure about their vocal performance.
Make sure you properly research your future teacher and see if you can find reviews on his/her services. This does save a lot of trouble as not all teachers are as good. A quick search on the web will usually show some background information on your teacher.
